My work translated into Chinese!

Thanks to the British Council one of my stories has just been published in a dual language English/Chinese anthology called A Little Nest of Pedagogues. My story is a short piece called ‘Stranger’, which originally appeared in New Writing 13 (Picador, 2005); it was subsequently reprinted in a German magazine and now it’s travelling even further afield.
I’m one of ten writers, including Emily Perkins, Kamila Shamsie, Romesh Gunesekera and Fay Weldon, whose work has been translated here. The back cover describes the collection as ‘new writing from established writers and names to watch’. I’m amazed and delighted.

Do you know the full list of writers for this, as I think I am one of them, Jason Kennedy. Been a black hole trying to find the info on this.

Actually, it may not be this edition, but it’s part of the same initiative.
Hi Jason, It sounds as if it must be another edition. The full list of contributors for this volume is as follows: Niall Griffiths, Lawrence Norfolk, Martin Ouvry, Romesh Gunesekera, Frances Gapper, Donald Paterson, Fay Weldon, Kamila Shamsie, Emily Perkins (and me). I was paid a small fee (£50) and I received a contract via the British Council, but it did take an awfully long time from that point before the book itself appeared. The ISBN number for this volume is 978-7-02-006925-5. It’s not available on Amazon as far as I can see, but I’ve been told by the British Council that the Chinese publishers can be contacted directly. They are called The People’s Literature Publishing House, and the address: No. 166 Chaonei Najie, Dongcheng District, Beijing, China, Post code: 100705.

Your dad sent us a page with the english-chinese version of your short story. I’m studying chinese for the past 2 years and was delighted because I could translate all the words!!! but now I’ll like to continue reading it.But i see it not easy to get it. That is so impressive! I seems like an enormous mental shift to think in ideograms rather than letters. I don’t think I’d have the brain power to remember so many new things. As for my own story in Chinese and English, I will scan it and put it up on this site soon so you can read it to the end. I’ll ask my dad to e-mail you the link when it’s up. The book itself may not be so easy to get hold of. I was just sent one copy, and the British Council do not sell it directly.
