Vicky Grut
Vicky Grut’s awards for short fiction include an Asham and an Ian St James in 1999 and the Chapter One International Short Story prize in 2006. Her stories have appeared in magazines and collections including Random Factor (Pulp Books, 1997), Reshape Whilst Damp (Serpent’s Tail, 2000), Valentine’s Day: Stories of Revenge (Duckworth, 2000) and two volumes of the British Council anthology New Writing: 13 (Picador 2005) and NW14 (Granta, 2006). She is a reader for the Literary Consultancy and teaches creative writing for the Open University and London's South Bank University.

A one-day workshop with Vicky Grut

There’s something for everyone here, whether you’re an experienced writer or a relative beginner. The workshop is built around short writing exercises designed to energise and inspire, and there will be time for discussion and to share strategies for keeping going when you hit a block or time is tight. Fun, thought-provoking and suitable for all levels of experience.

WRITING PEOPLE AND PLACES
A one-day workshop with Vicky Grut

Interesting characters and evocative settings make for a gripping read, but what are the secrets to creating them? This workshop will explore the creative dynamic between the two elements, and a range of short writing exercises will suggest different techniques and approaches to characterisation and creating a fictional setting. Open to anyone interested in writing fiction, regardless of experience.
